So much has been happening in Chile over the past week, it’s been hard to keep up with all the activity going on. Hence, why I thought in case you missed something, it might be easier just to sum up some of the stories we’ve been following here at AndesBeat.

Now that the clock has struck midnight in Santiago, Chile, it’s officially 11 April 2012…meaning that things are about to get a little crazy up in here because it’s time for Geek Fantasy Camp II!
A mashup of both seasoned and newbie entrepreneurs, lawyers, designers, pixelators, codeslingers, bootstrappers, dreamers and hackers will come together to Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (San Joaquin Campus) to get their Startup Mode On!
The goal – over the course of the next 5 days (and 2 overnights), this initially ‘random’ group of geeks will have to assemble themselves into teams and prototype a Silicon Valley ready startup to pitch to a panel of international investors, by the end of the competition!
As Latin America’s ‘startup hunters’, with the autumn season upon us here in South America, of course we have our permits in order and are ready for open season to begin.
We wanted to take this time to highlight a few of the competitions, contests and programs that are currently open and primarily targeted towards Chileno startup founders, tech entrepreneurs and social innovators (although there are a few things geared towards ALL entrepreneurs).
We encourage ALL Chilenos in all phases of their entrepreneurial endeavors to get out there to gain real hands on experience, test your ideas, develop your pitch, launch your idea faster, expand your skill set and diversify and build your network.Continue reading →
Gran Chile startup founders and tech entrepreneurs! I am so proud of you. Indeed you have come along way since January 12, 2012.(Note: The week’s highlights and new contest launches follow intro).
I see you are taking your place in the world not as merely startup founders and tech entrepreneurs from Chile, but as rising global startup thought leaders launching out of Latin America; and the next generation of Angels/VC founders and philanthropists in the making.
Over recent weeks, you have been crushing all the misconceptions and beliefs that are often heard among entrepreneurial and startup circles in Latin America.
Startups and tech entrepreneurs – here’s how you are blowing IT up and making big things happen in (and for) Chile:
Conceptualized by Santiago, Chile IncubaUC (Entrepreneurship Incubator at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile) and co-produced in conjunction with U.S. based 3 Day Startup, Geek Fantasy Camp brought together a random group of entrepreneurial minded professional people with the objective to launch a startup in 5 days and 2 nights.
The winning teams as determined by a group of international investors, accomplished entrepreneurs and co-founders of 3 Day Startups were awarded a trip to Silicon Valley and will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to investors based in the Valley. They will be traveling in Silicon Valley February 5 to March 6, 2012 and AndesBeat will be tracking their journey and milestones from their trip. Continue reading →
Geek Fantasy Camp makes its inaugural debut in the world. The event brought together entrepreneurs from several counties in Latin America along with Silicon Valley investors. At the end of the day 4 teams (that launched their startup at the event over the course of 3 days) walked away with free mentorship and an all expense paid trip to Silicon Valley in June 2012.
