Meet AndesMade Advisor: Hannu Krosing

AndesBeat is uber excited to announce Hannu Krosing as the 2nd mentor of our forthcoming AndesMade immersion based initiative to support Chilean startup founders and tech entrepreneurs rapid prototype and quickly get ideas into the marketplace with their bootstrapping mode on. (You can follow our running list with  newly named mentors here!)

Since we have been told time and time again its going to be a little difficult to support our ‘utopian’ dreams of building our community of soon to be ‘bleeding edge’ hackers and startup thought leaders from a bunch of ‘failed and rejected’ Chilean startup projects, we thought we would get a 2nd opinion just to be sure…

That research led us outside of Chile over the pond to Spain (by way of Estonia) to Mr. Hannu Krosing, the first Database Architect (DBA) at Skype (acquired on 10 May 2011 by Microsoft Corporation for US $8.5 billion).

Hannu has been a PostgreSQL hacker since it was called Postgres and currently serves as a consultant and developer at 2nd Quadrant, which is the world’s leading authority on the open source PostgreSQL RDBMS.

Take a Deep Breath

Hannu’s expertise is working on high-performance / high-availability database-backed systems using PostgreSQL and migrating projects to PostgreSQL and SOA, geographically distributed databases, as well as cryptography, Digital Signatures and security.

In addition to his work at 2nd Quadrant he is also the Technology Advisor at Ambient Sound Investments (ASI), which is an investment company that was established in 2003 as an equal partnership by four founding engineers at Skype to hold a minority stake in Skype. At the end of 2005 ASI sold its Skype shares to eBay and now operates as a private investment vehicle. Today, they are a team of 15 people managing € 100 million of assets. ASI’s portfolio consists of 30 companies which are located in Europe, US and Asia.

ASI as an investor has an interest in technology start-ups with a focus on B2C software, web and mobile applications, and social media. ASI is funding early stage companies which are typically looking to raise Seed or A-round investments. Besides financing ASI wants to share its experience in software engineering and business development and contribute actively into growth of portfolio companies.

Investing in the Future

As access to capital and networks are essential, regardless of what venture you start, in our inaugural AndesMade advisory team post, we introduced Alicia Castillo Holley, the Mother of Seed Capital in Chile. She founded Chile’s first Seed Capital Program (Capital Semilla Program). She also designed and launched Chile’s first (oldest) entrepreneurship center at the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez.

We believe that Hannu and his expertise in building a successful startup from the ground up will provide an incredible launchpad for Chilean startup founders and tech entrepreneurs to follow.

In closing, AndesBeat would like to once again welcome and thank Hannu Krosing from 2nd Quadrant for generously offering his time and support to help foster the growth of Chile and Latin America’s emerging generation of startup founders, VC’s partners and philanthropists.

Who’s next to be announced on our International Advisory Team?

Perhaps it could be YOU!

If you are an executive level director, startup founder, developer or investor (anywhere in the world) who has an interest in connecting hands on with the Chilean and Latin American startup community in the very early stages, please consider joining our advisory team.
