Syrenaica, a chilean gaming company, rocks Kickstarter!

The Chilean gaming company Syrenaica is being funded via Kickstarter and is hoping to follow the success of other Chilean companies like Puzzle Me!, which was one of the first Chilean companies to be funded that way.

Kickstarter is a funding platform primarily for creative and technology based projects. Each project creator has to decide on a certain amount of money they want to fund until a certain deadline.

If the goal is not met, nothing will be funded. So it is an “all or nothing” funding program – very challenging!

Syrenaica creates groundbreaking Games, sometimes as a natural result of a proactive culture that encourages fun. Lots of fun! They believe they ARE that kind of culture, so they are dedicated to develop games that bring the only real value that matters.

‘Video Games Extreme Workshop 2’ kicks off today!

Today the Video Games Extreme Workshop 2, hosted by VGA (Video Game Chile) kicks off at UFSM in Valparaiso.

Organized by Video Games Chile and USM Games, the event seeks to attract and support  those who wish to learn and/or improve in game development can collaborate with professionals of the industry in the creation and development of new games. (Photo left: Daniel Winkler, Founder of Iguana Bee along with Pablo Gorigoitia of Brainstomers are the 2 main organizers of the event).

In its previous version the event gathered over 200 people, 20 new games were created, 5 people got hired by video game companies and one of the participating teams started their own company. Continue reading

ePig games surpasses 1,000,000 downloads

For those who thought that a small bootstrapping Chilean game design studio was only capable of competing in the space with larger more well-funded companies when (e)pigs fly, AndesBeat is predicting that the price of pork is going to increase considerably in the near future.

The award winning ePig games studio was the first company in Chile to develop an HTML5 game.

And now, Nicolás Palacios, ePig Games CEO, along with his co-founders Andres Cortes and Diego Palacios (who is also his brother) are celebrating another huge milestone as their ePig games series has busted through 1,000,000 downloads. Continue reading

What’s new in Sumersion Studio?

Originally founded by Alejandro Navarro and Sebastián Matus, Sumersion Studio is a game development firm located in Santiago, Chile known for their outstanding graphic design work.

Their specialty is in developing 3D games for mobile, web and they will soon launch PC compatible games (Lead developer is Fernando González).

Puzzle Me game pushes Chile’s first kickstarter project up to 81% crowd funded

Puzzle Me! is a family friendly board game developed by Brainstomers.

This is the first board game designed from the indie game designers who recently launched a video game design studio in Santiago.

While they are not a startup, they are the first project we found in the popular North American crowdfunding website, Kickstarter, so we just couldn’t resist giving them some AndesBeat love. Continue reading
